Lady Luck hit me again...

this time the number came from Steve's house unit number...
i was at his place at Sapphire on the third day of CNY...
he SMSed me his unit number 04-16...
so that i could tell the security guard where i was heading to...
and today it was the first prize number...
S$2,000 of spending money for my Australia trip in the pocket...

looking forward to this Friday's S$10 million ToTo draw...

HUAT AH...

Donut Factory...

after one month, they finally arrived... five boxes of them... my colleague offered two to me... i couldn't resist... threw away all my "no snacking in office" principle and ate the cheese one and the strawberry one... oh God, i have sinned...

the latest news is that you can only reserve for two boxes at one time... down from five to three to two... not sure about the waiting period now though...

thank you guys for coming to celebrate this chinese new year @ Hougang... apologies for not being able to keep all of you company at any one time...

catch up again after i return from my Australia trip on 10 March 2007...

thanx to my family for putting up with all the noise and merry-making...

and last but not least, thanx to my mum for all the preparation and cooking... and for being such a dear...

African Proverb...

got this from a colleague... dunno what it means also... anyone??

"Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning a lion wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will be starve to death.
It doesn't matter whether you are the lion or the gazelle.
When the sun comes up, you better start running."

CNY Day Three...

woke up at 9:30am... had breakfast... showered and changed into my sleeveless ching chiong sleeveless t-shirt... four more stops today... all in Yishun...

first was my big uncle's place... had vegetarian fried rice... second vegetarian dish in two days... i am still a meateater...

next we visited my maternal aunts and uncles... chatted a while with my second uncle who recently had an operation... he asked if i have been working out cos my arms and shoulders look bigger... even my aunts made the same comments before we left... was watching Fear Factor Celebrity Matches on cable while eating the crispy cuttlefish...

on our way to my second uncle's place in Emerald, i stopped by Steve's place next door, Sapphire... met his parents and his dog... the dog just cannot resist licking my hands and arms... i was totally grossed out... Steve said it's common for dogs to do that to strangers... we had a good chat catching up on the latest... i have to make the effort to meet up with them more often...

dinner was at my second uncle's place... they booked the function room... played mahjong... half a round and i lost S$40... *faints* had our lou hei before calling it a day...

reached home... so tired... slept by 11:30pm...

CNY Day Two...

woke up at 6:30am to buy breakfast from the mama store downstairs... luckily they had mee siam today... yesterday was lontong...

changed to my ah beng red CNY t-shirt... three places to visit today... all in Tampines...

first stop was my grandmother's sister's place... every year mum has to remind me on how to address them depending on their seniority... somehow i never bother to memorise them... hahahaha...

next was my dad's god-brother's place... finally the youngest son has grown quite a bit after so many years... i still like the elder son better... oops... amazed that they are still playing "Maple Story" one year on... remembered last year after visiting them, i was tempted to play Maple Story... found it too kiddy for my own comfort and deleted the game in less than a month... hahahaha... dad took some pictures of them... and said that he would email them the pics... the youngest son was shocked to learn that dad knows how to email... hahahaha...

lunch was served... it's vegetarian... cos their whole family is vegetarian... strange to be eating prawns, fishballs and other stuff that were made of god-knows-what... luckily they didn't taste too bad...

last stop was my fourth uncle's place... played mahjong... won S$50 after two rounds... so tired by then...

CNY Day One...

woke up with a hangover at 9am... took panadol extra and went back to bed... woke up at 12pm feeling much better... popped another panadol extra just in case...

had breakfast and waited for relatives to arrive...

total headcount for the day was 38:
big uncle (no representative although they have 8)
second uncle (7 - all came)
dad (5 - all of us were home this year. usually elder brother will be away in The Philippines)
fourth uncle (4 - second daughter was working)
fifth uncle (5 - second son was home nursing a broken leg)
sixth uncle (4 - all came)
big aunt (7 - eldest daughter and son-in-law were at in-laws' place)
small aunt (6 - all came including the maid)

the usual eating, drinking and mahjonging... i didn't play cos enough "legs" already...

CNY Eve...

chinese new year's eve i was still clearing my room... my younger brother too... hahahaha...

went down to Wah Lok restaurant to buy their yusheng home for reunion dinner... expensive but delicious...

reunion dinner was the usual steamboat... had my favourite prawns, fishballs and other things... helped mum to clean the table before heading to Zouk for mambo-jambo with Kerry...

mambo was fun... great fun... loads of fun... had a jug of screwdriver yet wasn't high... can imagine how diluted the drinks were... was on the dancefloor from around 1am to 4am... still amused by the hand gestures of the young boys and girls...

reached home around 5am... showered and slept... great way to welcome the Year of the Pig...

Sunday...

couldn't' sleep last night... had a very bad dream... of death, the devils and the dark angels... woke up in the middle of the night panting... was shivering cold...

went to AMK for breakfast with mum and dad... it's been a while since i last ate with them on an early Sunday morning... back at the wet market... the fish stall still stinks... eeeks...

came home, slept for a while, before clearing the magazines away...

met Kerry for his birthday celebrations... first it was tea at Sun With Moon (my all-time favourite Japanese restaurant)... so much to talk about... to update each other...

then we went window-shopping at Takashimaya... borrowed 6 books on Sydney and Melbourne... time to plan my itinerary...

dinner was at Imperial Treasure Teochew restaurant... the food was perfect... never tasted such tender toufu and fish... and the three combination of char siew, roasted pork and roasted duck was heavenly... superb... gave Kerry an ang pao cos i think it's more practical...

had a wonderful day... hopefully i will have sweet dreams tonight...

goodnight world...

Blood Diamond... Canon...

was lazing at home the entire day... besides watching the Madonna's DVD, nothing much was accomplished... went through a couple of old magazines before throwing them away... still got a pile to go through by tomorrow...

last minute decided to watch Blood Diamond with Shaun... was only interested to catch Leonardo's Oscar-nominated performance... we were pleasantly surprised by how good the movie was... great acting by both the male leads... Leonardo put in a stunning performance... though i seriously think that Djimon Hounsou stole the limelight from everyone else... lotsa gun shots and bombs... some parts reminded me of Apocalypto...

besides the two male actors being nominated in the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor categories, the move was also nominated for Film Editing, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing...

before the movie started, the cinema was playing Pachebel's Canon... and just now, when i was listening to 100% of Pure Yoga... there was also Canon in one of the tracks... memories... memories...

Wednesday Movie: Little Children

after Wednesday's Half Nelson, Ken and i went to Plaza Singapura McDonald's for dinner... realised that the fillet-o-fish meal is more expensive than the McChicken meal... always remembered it's cheaper... or maybe i too long didn't have fast food liao... hahahaha...

frankly, Half Nelson is over-rated... Ryan Gosling's performance as the male lead was not very impressive...

anyway, Ken and Dave who are dateless on Valentine's Day decided to have a date with some "Little Children" and continue with our Wednesday movie night... our regular movie mate Patrick has a date with Spring... and DK whom we invited to join the movie club played us out on Wednesday and has since been barred from joining the group... hahahaha...

7:15pm @ The Cathay on Valentine's Day... Kate and Patrick... beautiful babe and a hunk... what more can we ask for??

Madonna DVD Banned Here...

Taken from the Nudew Paper...

Madonna DVD banned here
Cross scene could be reason

IF you are a Madonna fan waiting for her Confessions Tour on DVD, forget it.

By Sheela Narayanan
04 February 2007

IF you are a Madonna fan waiting for her Confessions Tour on DVD, forget it.

The DVD has been banned here.

The New Paper understands it is because of a controversial mock crucifixion that the 48-year-old singer (left, performing in Amsterdam) staged during her world tour last year.

She performed the song Live To Tell suspended from a cross while wearing a crown of thorns.

When we contacted Warner Music Singapore, its marketing manager, Mr Simon Nasser, said the Media Development Authority has not approved the DVD's release.

MDA could not be reached for comment at press time.

The DVD had its worldwide release on 29 and 30 Jan.

Mr Nasser said Warner Music had submitted it for approval last month.

The application and a subsequent appeal were rejected.

'We were asked to remove the cross scene in the video but Warner Singapore does not have the rights from Madonna's management to do that,' he said.

The Confessions world tour, which went to 25 cities in seven countries, has drawn protests.

The BBC reported that church groups in the US and Europe condemned the performance and in the Netherlands, a priest was arrested after he attempted to stop the Dutch leg of the tour by making a hoax bomb threat.

Dutch Protestant groups wanted to bring blasphemy charges against Madonna, but the Amsterdam prosecutors' office refused, saying the scene was subject to different interpretations.

Madonna released a statement after the Japan leg of the tour in September last year, saying that her act was not mocking the church.

She said: 'My performance is neither anti-Christian, sacrilegious nor blasphemous. Rather, it is my plea to the audience to encourage mankind to help one another and to see the world as a unified whole.'

The performance, she explained, was intended to draw attention to the millions of African children dying of Aids.

It also brought her a lot of money.

US music magazine Billboard reported that the Confessions tour made US$193.7 million ($297m) and was the highest-earning show by a female artiste.

Madonna fans were able to catch the concert on cable TV's Channel V.

The channel also gave away the DVDs as part of a promotional campaign in Kuala Lumpur last month.

This is not the first time Madonna has had a run-in with religious people.

In 1989, the Vatican condemned her music video Like A Prayer, which featured burning crosses, statues crying blood and Madonna seducing a black Jesus.

Mr Brenton Wong, 44, a public relations consultant, said he was not surprised by the ban.

'It is understandable. In Singapore we are sensitive about provoking religious groups,' he said.

But he also thinks our society is mature enough to handle the provocative material that Madonna dishes out.

'She's known to do it,' he said. 'People should not read so much into it.'
