The 2-Variable Intuition Test

More Emotional

You have:
55% SCIENTIFIC INTUITION and
70% EMOTIONAL INTUITION

The graph on the right represents your place in Intuition 2-Space. As you can see, you scored above average on emotional intuition and about average on scientific intuition.Keep in mind that very few people score high on both! In effect, you can compare your two intuition scores with each other to learn what kind of intuition you're best at. Your emotional intuition is stronger than your scientific intuition.

Your Emotional Intuition score is a measure of how well you understand people, especially their unspoken needs and sympathies. A high score score usually indicates social grace and persuasiveness. A low score usually means you're good at Quake.

Your Scientific Intuition score tells you how in tune you are with the world around you; how well you understand your physical and intellectual environment. People with high scores here are apt to succeed in business and, of course, the sciences.

your humor style:
VULGAR | COMPLEX | LIGHT

Yours is the most versatile and also the most popular kind of humor. You'll crack a joke about just about anything, but you're not mean-spirited or intimidating, so you can get away with it--even when, for example, you bust on Mexicans.

You appreciate a good dirty joke as much as next person, but, over all, you've got a brainier approach to humor than most. Now just go out there and write up a routine; it's likely you'd be good at it.

Huh?

conducted an interview with a lady candidate this afternoon... she's young, 25 years old...

D = Dave
C = candidate

----------

D: how do you think you will fit into the job that we are offering?
C: i'm not sure...
D: ... ... ...
(after a pause)
D: why did you apply for this job?
C: i have to work long hours in my current job... sometimes i have to work until 2am during our peak period that can last up to 2 weeks...
D: ... ... ...

D: do you have any experience in securities trading?
C: no...
D: are you familiar with the various legislation governing the securities trading industry, e.g. the Securities & Futures Act and the Singapore Exchange rules?
C: no... but i can read up...
D: ... ... ...

D: how would you rate your writing skills?
C: not very good because i have not written for a while... my current job doesn't require me to write reports...
D: how about presentation skills cos we have to do presentations to staff, etc...
C: besides during my poly days (which was many many years ago), i have not presented anything to anybody...
D: ... ... ...

----------

in my last 1 year of conducting interviews, she must be the worst candidate that i've met...

Trust...

submitted my OT to HR two weeks ago... it was late, no doubt, cos slipped my mind...

was in KL over the weekend of 23 to 24 April 2005... last minute decision by boss to accede to the Malaysian office's request to review their submission to the authorities... was working like mad over the weekend...

the HR Manager asked me if i really worked over the weekend? reminded her that she saw me when i returned on 25 April (Monday) and was asking how come i looked so tired... this episode set me thinking:

1. will i cheat on the company of two days of OT? by the way, they are not paying me... just crediting the 16 hours to my yearly requirement of 70 hours...
2. is there any basic trust in me as a senior officer (now the audit manager) of the company?

sigh... or am i too petty to get upset over this?!

34th Weekend Of 2005

Friday (26 August 2005)

went for my acupuncture, which had become more and more irregular, due to work commitment... partly also because of the fact that i am no longer able to feel much improvement to my hearing... and sort of lost interest in the treatment... typical Sagittarian... just cannot commit...

----------

Saturday (27 August 2005)

met michael in the evening to attend some talks, part of the Singapore Writers Festival... was early and decided to look around the new National Library... huge place... too big, probably... and very cold (on a hot sunny day)...

talk #1: Writing Crime, C.S.I Style (Panel Discussion)
talk #2: From Cyberpunk to Industrial Design – Writing Science Fiction in the 21st century (Talk)
performance #3: Performed Literature – Taxi in the City (Performance)

talk #1 started early, when we reached the Black Box at 5:50pm, it had started... and that's before the stipulated time of 6pm... sigh... and it ended late too... stretched until 7:15pm...

michael and i had to rush to talk #2... the presenter just went on and on with minimal pausing... couldn't catch what he was saying... of course the wide space at the Pod (16th floor) resulted in echoing and it was even more difficult to hear him... at 7:50pm, we left to make sure we catch the performance #3 (cos it's a ticketed event)...

performance #3 was in Mandarin... the phrases from the books were pretty "chim" and we were not sure what the context was... at the end of it, i was totally blurred...

michael suggested to have dinner at TCC Bugis... equally cold, if not colder than the Library... what's wrong with air-conditioning?! hehe... had a great meal and a good chat with michael... discussed about his KL trip during the National Day holiday (and that was when he heard from KC about my loss of hearing)... talked about work, about life in general...

michael said that he is taking his diploma course in Training and doing a couple of languages... he had finished Thai and is now learning Malay... told him that i have gone past the learning age... thinking back, probably i should upgrade myself too... hmmm...

reached home at 12am... *yawn yawn*... showered and went to bed... JB trip tomorrow...

----------

Sunday (28 August 2005)

woke up at 9am to get ready for the JB trip... Melvin came to pick me up first, before heading to Paya Lebar to pick up Raymond and then to Bishan for Patrick and Taka... strange that Melvin, Raymond and i were all in red t-shirts... cute...

customs in the morning was not too bad... there was a queue but still quite manageable...

first stop, food glorious food... had dim sum, prawn noodles and char kway teow... next it was the photo shop opposite the coffeeshop where Melvin had his digital pictures developed (RM0.40 per 4R photo)... cheap cheap...

holiday plaza was next... ordered a total of 30 DVDs (3 belonged to Melvin)... the man said they will deliver by Tuesday... the price... RM9 per disc, INCLUSIVE of delivery... wow!!!!! told my KL friend, William, about it and he whined that he had to drive to the shop, make his selection and they charged him RM12 per DVD... hahahaha...

after that it was to some Extra shopping place, similar to Giant... too bad the place was clearing stuff... looked like it's closing down soon... hahahaha...

next came pelangi... nothing much to buy... ended up getting some groceries cos they were really CHEAP!!!!! but of course melvin drove, or else how to lug the things back?!

dinner was at Tebrau (cannot remember the full name)... had fish, beggar's chicken, grandmother prawns, kangkong... sugar cane juice to go with the food... what a feast...

then bought fruits... 4kg of baluku and 2.5kg of longan... hahahaha...

melvin was so kind (he's forever such a sweetie) to send all of us home...

too tired to blog and went to bed...

thanx, melvin for the trip and for the dinner... and of course to melvin, raymond, patrick and taka for the company... i had a good time... hope to see you guys again soon...

Weekend Starts When?

i'm always curious about when does the weekend start? friday night or saturday morning? remembered that i had my departmental dinner two friday nights ago... called the restaurant to make a reservation... the guy told me that they don't accept reservations on weekends... and i conveniently assumed that the weekend starts on friday evening, after work... hehe...

if go by that theory, sunday evening is not part of the weekend? or is it?

complicated sia...

22 August 2005

ICA...

melvin called this morning to discuss about the JB trip this Sunday... luckily he asked whether my passport is still valid... remembered my expiry is sometime in Feb 2006... and usually foreign countries require at least a 6-month validity period for visitors, i decided to renew my passport...

went to the Immigration & Checkpoint Authority during lunch time... the whole process of taking photograph, getting queue number and processing took me less than 20 minutes!! impressive!!

new passport could be collected on Friday... hooray!! JB, here i come...

In Or Out?

to move or not to move, that's the question... related to the topic on the Government's relaxation of the property rules...

kerry has always wanted to move out of his parents' place for a long time now... he did that a couple of times in the past but in the end still moved back with them... his major unhappiness about living with his parents is the lack of privacy (or rather invasion of privacy)...

dave, on the other hand, has been most reluctant to move anywhere... he's so comfortable staying with his family cos mum takes care of everything: from cooking instant noodles to peeling of fruits; from buying "liang teh" to cooking sumptuous dinner; from tidying the room to buying bedsheets... nearly everything is well taken care of...

with the new property rules, buying a private apartment is "easier"... and kerry has been very excited about it... the plan is to get an apartment big enough for himself by mid-2006... and one that he can afford, of course... don't think he will have any problem achieving that... i'm looking forward to the day when he has his housewarming...

dave on the other hand would still prefer to stay home... most likely scenario would be to purchase a 4-room HDB flat (which is cheaper than a private property) and rent it out to collect rental, while continue to live in the luxury of home-cooked food and peeled fruits... anyway, his older brother is buying the 4-room flat next to his parents now and there would be 6 bedrooms in the future for his parents and the 3 brothers... still got spare room available leh... hehe...

Another Weekend...

12 August 2005 (Friday)

had our departmental dinner today at Centre Stage, Marina Square... it's been a few months since Centre Stage started serving customers but somehow the crowd is still not there... probably not enough publicity and coupled with the endless renovation surrounding it...

wanted to have dinner at 6 & 7, a favourite of mine for the nice deco and ambience... however, the waitress told us that they were not serving any set dinners tonight because they were "out of stock"... a shocker to me! took the entire entourage of nine and moved to Victor's... great dinner... value-for-money... only problem i had was the deco... the national day decoration was totally out of place... small triangular flags were hung on the ceilings much to the effect of a community centre... low class sia... hehe...

13 August 2005 (Saturday)

met kerry at Plaza Singapura for Seven Swords... a great show although it was a little too long... couldn't recognise Yang Caini cos she was totally tanned and dark...

simple story about an Imperial decree to eliminate all those who learn martial arts... the good versus the bad... and of course, as in any "feel-good" wuxia pian, the good prevailed... after much action-packed kongfu fighting... Seven Swords were indeed seven highly-skilled wulin gao shou... each with his / her own sword and fighting style...

one thing that i liked about the show was the funny dialogues throughout the movie... kept me going...

----------

had dinner at Tea Cosy after the movie... interesting place cos it was also a lifestyle shop selling all kinds of "old" and very peranakan-styled furniture and decorations... the food was good too...

14 August 2005 (Sunday)

it was Lik Kiam's housewarming this afternoon... Waterina @ Geylang... heard the place cost him about $800,000... OMG... don't think i will ever spend so much for a private apartment... i'm easily satisfied with a 4-room HDB flat... will write about buying properties in my next blog...

good to see people like Wendy and Vincent... too bad didn't spend much time catching up cos i was late... hehe...

after that it was home for a much-needed sleep after yet another weekend...

Latest On The Presidential Elections

just when the entire country was excited about a possible candidate for the presidential elections, news of his past (not so glamorous) employment history was publicised as front page news in the local "Straight Times"... looking at things now, i seriously doubt he will be eligible as a candidate... sigh...

but let's be optimistic lor... at least we still get our public holiday on 27 Aug... hahahaha...

11 August 2005

Presidential Elections...

Singapore is a strange country... we can hardly find candidates for our presidential elections... there does not seem to be such a problem elsewhere in the world...

the first presidential elections had the late Ong Teng Cheong... and some accountant who stood for elections because he was sort of asked to do so... the next election was a no-contest... Nathan was elected "automatically"... and this time, just when we thought that Andrew Kuan is going to be a contest, doubts were casted on his eligibility...

some questions came to mind:
1. are our criteria for eligibility too stringent until we do not have candidates who can qualify?
2. are our citizens so caught up in their own daily lives that those who are qualified to stand for election do not wish to do something for their country?
3. when there is no contest, should not the citizens still have a choice to decide if the one and only candidate is who they want to be their president?

on a more personal note, 27 August, being election day, is a public holiday... being in a five-day work week company, when a public holiday falls on a Saturday, the company is supposed to "compensate" the employees with another off day... now HR is discussing about if there's no contest, would 27 August still be a public holiday? think they are unwilling to give us the one off day... hahahaha...

I WANT MY OFF DAY... used up most of my leave for my treatment over the last few weeks...

Eggs...

decided to lunch in today cos waiting for the Director to come back with her comments on the report to be submitted to MAS...

bought chicken chop rice with egg... my third egg (yolk and all) in 2 days: yesterday lunch had one; dinner mum cooked eggs too and this afternoon another... imagine the cholestrol level in my body now... argh...

10 August 2005

GNC Member...

at last... after so long, i am a member of GNC... decided to get some health supplements due to a friend's recommendations... and was very tempted by the HUGE discount given by GNC for members during this month: for every two items purchased, it's 40% off first item and 25% off second item (with the most expensive getting the higher discount)... how to resist...

in the end paid $10 for the 2-year membership and bought multi-vitamins ($61.15 before discount) and 5-HTP ($85.55 before discount)... the former for overall health while the latter for replacement of serotonin in the body to enhance sleep and relieve anxiety... hehe...

gross savings = $49.51
less: $10 membership
net savings = $39.51

trust an internal auditor to be so calculative... occupational hazard... hahahahaha...

not been writing for a while... will be doing the following topics in the coming days (not necessarily in the same order):
- i am blessed...
- am i valued by the company?
- HDB vs private apartment
- basic manners vs expectations vs reasonableness
- in or out?
- presidential elections...

so watch out for them...

mousez muses

came up with a new name for my blog: mousez muses... sounds better than mousez's blog, ya?

why didn't i think of it any earlier? sigh...

4 August 2005

Post-HBOT...

it's been 2 days since i stopped HBOT... nothing much has changed, except that i missed those days where i can leave the office at 1:15pm, have lunch at Novena Square food court and be at Starbucks @ TTSH by 2pm for my coffee and internet surfing... at least that's how i kept my sanity before getting myself into the oxygen chamber, "plunging" into depths of 15 metres and breathing in 100% pure oxygen... it's not really the most pleasant thing one would want to go through voluntarily... and i went through 15 times of that... but of course, i was eventually rewarded with regaining my hearing on my left ear...

it was difficult to adjust to a full-day work over the last 2 days... but coping well lor... hehe...

2 August 2005

Final HBOT & Acupuncture #6

went for my final HBOT today... mixed feelings really...

happy cos i wouldn't have to go through the tiring treatment process... the nauseating feeling in the chamber sucks and i've done that for the last 3 weeks...

sad cos i've had a bond with the nurses, receptionists, doctor and the elderly patient, Mr Kam...

bought some biscuits / cookies from Marks & Spencer for the people at the Hyperbaric Centre... nothing fanciful... something simple to thank them for the care, concern, joy and laughter... we had fun over the last 3 weeks... especially with the varied music CDs i brought each day...

over the last one week, there has not been much noticeable improvement to my hearing... maybe it has peaked... hope not... or i would be having this 60% hearing in my left ear for the rest of my life?? duh...

----------

it was the usual acupuncture after HBOT... nothing special worth mentioning...

----------

went to Cheng San Community Library to borrow a book... checked online in the morning that the book was available at this branch... hoping that it would still be available when i reached at 8:30pm...

the title of the book is "How Full Is Your Bucket?" by Tom Rath and Donald O. Clifton... check out www.bucketbook.com... saw the softcover book about a month ago at MPH... wanted to buy it but didn't... decided to check if the library has it and BINGO! it does... save me some money... in a nutshell, it's a book about being positive in life and at work... hope to learn a thing or two...

another reason why i am reading non-fiction now is for my book reviews... since the company implemented the 5-day work week, we have to chalk up 70 hours of "extra-curricula activities" and reading was one of them... for books of less than 200 pages, each book review is worth 5 hours... and for books of more than 200 pages, it's 10 hours... hehe...

thank goodness i have always been reading... tho' more of fiction stuff...

1 August 2005

HBOT #14

time flies... it's been more than a month since i lost my hearing on my left ear... and it's also been more than 2 weeks since i started on Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy... and today was the second last treatment... after last Friday's hearing test with positive and promising results, i've decided to stop HBOT once i complete my 15 treatment... the main reason being the high cost involved... at $260 per treatment (of which i have to fork out cash of $160), i can hardly afford any further treatment...

the nurse vivien asked what music i will be bringing for the grand finale tomorrow... i replied that i have not decided... considering the fact that there's another indian elderly man in the same chamber as us, it would be polite to bring something sentimental and not techno, trance nor dance....

----------

after treatment, met kerry for Mysterious Skin, an arthouse movie about child sexual abuse, paedophilia and homosexuality... at the end of the movie, i still cant relate alien abduction with sexual abuse... probably as a kid, we try to forget the unpleasant things and replace them with something less probable and yet cannot be explained... however the blockade of such processing of information by the brain (whether consciously or unconsciously) only led to more pain in the future...

the advocacy of safe sex was done in a subtle yet not in the face manner which was applaudable... and whether one would become gay simply because of past sexual abuse by someone of the same sex when one was younger is debatable... there could be a certain level of correlation...

and the decision by the male lead (who previously acted in 3rd Rock From The Sun) to make full use of his good looks and body by hustling is also questionable... do all abused children degrade themselves into prostitution? or could they have possibly led normal lives like everyone else (i.e. get themselves a 9-to-5 job, etc)...

and who can forget the music soundtrack... it was so cocteau twins... hehe...

----------

after the movie, kerry was complaining about his hunger... he only had fruits and yoghurt for dinner... of course hungry lah... went to Maestro Bistro... and pleasantly surprise to bump into Mice and Danial... invited them to join us... chatted for a while before leaving for home... nice to see Mice again (after last Thursday's dinner at Magic Wok, Hougang Mall)...
