4D Consolation...
just received mum's SMS that my number 0306 struck consolation prize in today's 4D... happy happy... but then hor, usually when strike consolation, i'll let her keep the winnings one... hahahaha...
bits and pieces of my simple ordinary life as a person born in the year of the mouse...
just received mum's SMS that my number 0306 struck consolation prize in today's 4D... happy happy... but then hor, usually when strike consolation, i'll let her keep the winnings one... hahahaha...
had my first of five Personal Trainer (PT) sessions at California Bugis yesterday night 9pm... i was assigned a senior PT. Eric Goh... he's friendly and knowledgeable... he has to be, right?
after assessing my health and my fitness goals... we immediately started on the machines... we did quite a fair bit of stuff during the 1 hour... he also gave me tips on diet, posture, etc... those weight machines were aliens to me... very intimidating... hopefully i can know how to use them by the time my five free sessions are over
he tried to sell me the PT package... 38 sessions @ S$72 per session... that's a lot of money, boy!! i won't have the luxury to afford that...
one funny episode: while in the shower, i couldn't figure out which dispenser contains the shampoo, conditioner or shower gel cos there were no labels... OMG... after my shower, i went to asked the guys at the towel counter... and was enlightened...
planning on doing the following this week at Orchard Cali:
3 June Sat 3:30pm - Intro Step (B) - Step On The Beach by Toni
3 June Sat 4:40pm - Body Combat (M) by Christina
4 June Sun 3:30pm - Intro Step (B) by James S
as i am new to Cali, i'm trying to go for all the beginners classes...
having my first personal trainer session on Tue at Cali Raffles Place at 9pm...
woke up in the morning for the MacRitchie Treetop Walk... just when we were about to reach the Treetop Walk, it started pouring... we didn't allow the rain to dampen our spirits and continued with crossing the bridge in umbrellas and ponchos... mission accomplished in 5.5 hours (inclusive of cleaning / washing up / meals at Thomson Plaza)...
did a lot of things today... had my haircut... and bought my padlock for gym... withdrew money for mum... she was happy cos i gave her 1/6th of my bonus... hahahaha...
Kelvin Tong's Love Story was the fifth movie i saw in 7 days... that's a record number of movies for me so far...
decided to watch the movie for two reasons:
1. support Singapore movie industry
2. Kelvin Tong won Best Director
i must say i was disappointed by the movie...
1. for the confusing story where fiction and fact were so mixed up that the audience was lost... it's a very difficult movie to understand...
2. for the bad casting of some local TV celebrities (namely Ericia Lee and Evelyn Tan)... bad acting...
i have to applaud Kelvin Tong for his directorship... there were some impressive shots / sequences... and the use of lights and darkness is also nicely done...
after the movie, Jensen and i had coffee at Starbucks... chatting about life, about relationships, about music, about clubbing, about mobile phones, etc... it's been a while since we last had such a good chat... nice!
received the letter on my performance bonus for work done in calendar year 2005...
better than last year's amount for work done in calendar year 2004...
considering my ill-health for most parts of 2005...
i am satisfied...
not Robinsons... it's the Great Singapore Sale (GSS)...
met M for lunch at Sze Chuan Kitchen, a cheaper version of Sze Chuan Court, at Raffles City (where i work)... he was on his way to the office in Suntec... his last working day today... all the best for your new job... and enjoy your holidays... remember my Polo T-shirt hor... hahahaha...
decided to do a short review of the two movies i've seen over the last two days...
public announcement: if you are watching X-Men: The Last Stand, please stay until the end of the credits for a teaser...
if you have not seen them, please do not continue if you do not wish to spoil your enjoyment watching them later...
even before the movie premiered, there were already so much of controversies over it... from the law suit to prevent the movie from reaching the big screens to the protests by the churches, condemning the movie... too much controversies but then again, aren't we already living in a world of controversies?
went into the theatre without much memories of the book that i've read about a year ago... couldn't even remember the ending... which was good... at least i will be watching the movie with an open mind...
stepped out of the theatre, with mixed feelings... the movie was bad, but probably not _that_ bad... or am i trying to be kind here? lolz...
from the casting of Tom Hanks as the male lead to the draggy and long-winded conversations and dialogues between the characters, the movie was nothing but dull... the sequences of "police-chase-thief" were predictable and nothing fanciful...
of course, the only defence for the long dialogues could be Ron Howard, the director, had to explain a lot of the details of the history of the Holy Grail... from the Templar Knights to the Priory of Scion to the Catholic church to Opus Dei... one simply cannot follow the movie without the explanations... else the audience would be in a daze by the time the movie reaches its climax...
one consolation has to be Ian McKellen as Teabing... such a charming British character...
and i must say a couple of things:
1. The Da Vinci Code is not for the staunch Christians out there... why put yourselves through the torture of doubting a faith you have held dear all along...
2. i want to visit The Lourve... hahahaha...
one word to describe the movie: MAGNIFICENT...
impressive special effects, good story line (but lack of further developments between the characters), beautiful cast and amazing mutant powers...
Storm was stunning with the short hair... and Angel was perfect with those wings and 6-pack abs... Jean Grey, what can i say? you took our breaths away with your "get-out-of-my-head" look... Wolverine, still as sissy as ever (i never liked this character since the first X-Men)...
there were so many other mutants in this installment... albeit cameo roles... but i love all of them!!
the scene where Magneto moved the Golden Gate Bridge is nothing but a classic!!
two consecutive days of Ian McKellen... and one conclusion: he is good... very good...
two consecutive late nights...
four movies in five days (Poseidon, Over The Hedge, The Da Vinci Code & X-Men: The Last Stand)...
boy, am i feeling the stretch now...
mum informed me this morning that i kenna 4D...
7244...
starter prize...
S$250 winnings...
performance bonus coming in this Saturday...
the Great Singapore Sale is on soon...
broke my pair of 4-year old Nike running shoes at the Big Walk yesterday...
mum came to wake me up at 5:30am... i had only 5 hours of sleep!!!!! pulled myself out of bed, freshened up, had my Gardenia bread for breakfast, packed my waist pouch and off i went for the New Paper Big Walk...
after a full day of rest at home with consistent medication, i was feeling much much better today...
the body says, "enough is enough"...
everyone has been asking me to drink more water... i am...
oops... not the California in the US of A... but California Fitness...
the usual... up to 70% storewide... will go during lunch on both days... since i'm at Raffles City... hooray!!
Mount Merapi finally erupts... and Dave too...
woke up at 9am... the rashes had disappeared, replaced by scratch marks on my thighs and body...
supposed to meet up with Ming and Juliet for dinner tonight at Lau Pa Sat... Juliet just came back from Texas after a 2.5-year posting there and she was craving for local food... couldn't think of anything else except LPS...
missed the post by T about the movie outing... last minute went online to book my own ticket... luckily got it...
simple movie touching on the realities of life in France... and about the love a mother has for her baby versus the challenges life posed for the father... and about how one wrong move led to another, eventually paying a hefty price for one's wrongdoings...
did a trip to the MacRitchie Treetop Walk... it's my first time to the Treetop Walk...
we started from MacRitchie Nature Trail... reached the Treetop Walk in about 1.5 hours... the view was good but the height was kinda scary... we exited from the Venus Drive route, which was along Upper Thomson Road and was shorter by about 45 minutes...
here are some pics taken during the trip...
things i wanted to buy with my S$700 progress package:
1. blades (checked S$180)
2. protective guards for blading (the shop didn't have my size checking next Sunday S$25)
3. small backpack for blading (balance of S$58)
4. ipod nano (checked S$438)
after much deliberation and with our stomachs grumbling and growling... to prevent ourselves from suffering from gastric pain... i bought the 4G white ipod nano... thanx to Jensen for accompanying me all this time...
slept at 3:30am... woke up at 10am... so tired... was a little grouchy towards my student... hahahaha...
slept at 5am... woke up at 10:30am... tuition from 11am... while my student was doing the questions, i went to cast my sacred vote...
took a short nap after tuition, before leaving the house to meet William from Kuala Lumpur... he's here on a business trip... we had dinner at Jerry's Grill... but that was after i brought William on a tour of Chinatown and Tanjong Pagar, accidentally... lolz... i have to admit that i am not familiar with that area at all...
(from top left: clam chowder soup, salad, grilled dory, root beer)
after dinner we had dessert at Jing Jing (along Temple Street, next to The Inn)... they had 101 varieties of dessert... *jaws dropped*
from 10pm, my mobile was ringing with SMSes on the results of the elections... i lost my covered walkways... but won a drink from a bet that the PAP will win Aljunied GRC...
reached home at 3am... it was drizzling... and i didn't have any covered walkways...
rushed home after work (and port wine in office)... decided to have my favourite walnut and banana bread for dinner... took some vanilla vodka + root beer before heading to Zouk to meet Kerry and Kit...
there was a slight jam along CTE from Ang Mo Kio Ave 3 to Ang Mo Kio Ave 1 cos cars were going to Serangoon stadium for the Worker's Party final rally before the polls tomorrow...
it's my first time in Zouk before 9:10pm... paid our dues and got our stamps... the cover charge before 10pm was S$18... BUT the catch was you have to finish your two drinks before 11pm... tough...
Kit had his dinner at Great World City food court, while Kerry and i had fruits...
we went back to Zouk at around 10:15pm so as to allow ourselves ample time to finish our drinks by 11pm... we had a jug of vodka lime...by which time i was quite hyper... started dancing from 11:30pm... Paul Oakenfold started spinning at 1am... very late lor... his kind of trance music was quite difficult to dance to... didn't really move much... met up with Roy on the dance floor... he was with his friends... Nick was there with his friends too... and he was "dirty-dancing" with a very fat lady as well as another couple...
we left Zouk at 3:30am... had our roti prata at River Valley...
after supper... it was home to sleep...
the election dust has finally settled... after all the speculation, the results were out...
did my part as a good Singapore citizen... casted my vote at Serangoon Junior College at 11:45am... 2nd time in my life to do this...
D: i want my covered walkways...
F: i can't find a VCR
